Sackett Street Townhouse

A Fully Customized 4-Story Renovation in just 30 weeks featuring Seamless Wood Design™ for a cohesive and tailored aesthetic.

When Starling Architecture and designer Emily Lindberg approached MADERA to provide the interior finished wood surfaces for their Carroll Gardens townhouse project, we were eager to take on the challenge. This 4-story Brooklyn townhouse promised to be something truly extraordinary. By harnessing the versatility of Seamless Wood Design™, we brought this ambitious and elegant vision to life—without limitations.

What does Seamless Wood Design™ look like in action?

Simply put, Seamless Wood Design™ is the art of perfectly integrated custom woodwork. For the Sackett Street townhouse, this meant crafting millwork, furniture, wide plank flooring, cabinetry, grilles and vents, architectural panels for ceilings and walls, stair treads, interior doors, kitchen fronts, and even a custom bed frame and built-in mudroom sideboard—all designed and fabricated to match seamlessly.

At MADERA, our Seamless Wood Design™ can include everything but the kitchen sink (though we’re confident we could figure that out too). Coordinating wood finishes across a project is often a challenge, with designers and architects forced to compromise on their vision due to material limitations—even with custom woodwork.

We believe in honoring nature’s beauty through timeless, high-quality design. Seamless Wood Design™ is our love letter to the unmatched elegance of letting wood take center stage.

Was This Project a Success?

We’re captivated by the beauty wood brings to any interior, and the Sackett Street renovation is no exception. As a stunning showcase of Seamless Wood Design™, expertly captured by photographer George Del Barrio of Vanderbilt Republic, this project perfectly embodies the timeless and effortless elegance of MADERA.

From the stair treads and architectural panels that amplify natural light and airflow to the custom cabinetry perched atop wide-plank floors, every detail reflects the highest standard of craftsmanship. This level of precision and artistry sets the benchmark for high-end renovations and new construction projects, whether residential or commercial, in the realm of custom woodwork.

Seamless Wood Design™ - How Did We Do It?

First, we collaborated with the architect and designer to align with the needs and vision of the family of five living at Sackett Street. Every renovation we undertake balances form and function, and our team excels at rapid problem-solving to bring ideas from concept to reality.

Seamless Wood Design™ begins at the source. For this project, all the oak was carefully sourced and processed in Bavaria, Germany. Using single-source wood is crucial to ensuring consistent color, grain, and tannin levels throughout. At Sackett Street, the same oak lamellas used for the wide plank flooring were also crafted into doors, architectural panels, stair components, and millwork. Once processed, the lamellas for doors and panels were sent to Belgium for lay-up and then finished by our skilled artisans to complete the seamless look.

This all came together in just 30 weeks—a demanding timeline for a renovation of this complexity. To meet the challenge, our project managers worked diligently to keep every detail and every contributor on track. We are committed to delivering every element of a project to the highest standard of excellence, all while meeting tight deadlines.
